Rising sign calculator
Your rising sign (Ascendant) is the sign that was rising in the east at the moment of your birth. It needs date, time and place. We take the daylight saving rules of your birth year into account.

Why the time of birth matters so much
Because the Earth rotates, a new zodiac sign rises over the eastern horizon roughly every two hours. Even half an hour can therefore give a different sign if you were born close to a change. The most accurate source is usually your birth certificate.
Why the place matters
The eastern horizon in Hamburg is not the one in Zurich: latitude and longitude change which point of the ecliptic is rising. The place also determines the time zone and whether daylight saving time applied. These rules have changed several times over the decades; we use the official historical time zone data.
Unknown time of birth
Without a time the rising sign stays open. Your Moon sign is often fixed anyway: if the Moon didn't change sign on your birthday, we show it. Otherwise you see both possible signs and the time of the change.
